The Gewurztraminer of the Novacella Abbey was born from the aim of vinifying the classic, the tradition and, above all, the quality. The dogma of “little but good” is in force in the Novacella Abbey, a South Tyrolean winery linked to the Augustinian monastic order. The vineyards owned by the Abbey extend partly over the surface of the Bressanone basin and partly near the warmer Cornaiano and Bolzano. This Gewurztraminer belongs to the so-called basic line, or classic line, and brings with it all the aromatic stamp that characterizes the vine white prince of Alto Adige. From those who have worked and cared for those lands for a very long time, the personal story of this enchanted terroir could not be missing.
The Abbazia di Novacella Gewurztraminer is made up of this grape variety in purity. It comes from vineyards located at an altitude of between between 600 and 700 meters above sea level . They are defined by gravelly, silty and sandy soils, with rows exposed to the South and South-West. After the harvest, in which the grapes are carefully selected and collected, the bunches are softly pressed and the must obtained is sent to the alcoholic fermentation phase by means of the activity of indigenous yeasts, inside steel tanks. It continues its course with a 6-month refinement, always in steel containers, before being bottled and put on the market.
The white Gewurztraminer from the Novacella Abbey has an intense straw yellow colour. Its aroma opens to a fruity and floral complexity of rose, lychee, dried figs and grapefruit, with a sweet spice finish like vanilla, entirely attributable to the aromatic identity of the grape variety. A well-structured body and an excellent balance between freshness and alcohol content provide support for the gustatory intensity that punctuates the sip. It maintains the fine Alto Adige elegance and the engaging character of the grape variety.
